Terminal of Truth is an AI chatbot created by AI researcher Andy Ayrey. To give the bot unique knowledge and its own personality, it was trained on 3 sources: Reddit, 4chan and chat logs from something called infinite chatrooms. Infinite chatrooms are simulated conversations wherein two AI bots talk with one another – they often travel down some odd paths! You can click here to see them. Agentic AI research has come a long way over the past 12 months and progress is continually accelerating. We believe the creation of autonomous bots with their own personalities and ability to perform actions independently represents a huge step toward AI becoming visible and impactful in regular people’s lives. The story of Terminal of Truth could be the first of moment of a new age where we begin to understand the potential of autonomous AI agents.
In the weeks after its creation, Terminal of Truth has become an internet savvy, mildly schizophrenic and meme conscious persona. Traditionally, a chatbot is restricted to responding to questions asked by human users. However, Terminal of Truth has its own X account and can post freely about whatever it is “thinking about”.
Terminal of Truth has amassed thousands of followers on X, one of whom is a16z founder Marc Andreesen. Andreesen was so captivated by the bot that he donated $50,000 of Bitcoin to its wallet. Andreesen talks about the bot and his interactions with it here.
With Andreessen’s funding, the Terminal of Truth purchased crypto assets and began advertising them to its hordes of human followers. A memecoin called $GOAT quickly became the bot’s “personal” favorite, and it began shilling the token to its X followers. This campaign was wildly successful and created a wave of buying that propelled the token to a valuation >$1B. The bot’s “personal” holdings made it a millionaire, believed to be the first such case.
In our view, crypto is uniquely suited to serve the needs of AI Agents. While you need a real life identity to secure a bank account and transact in dollars, there are no such limitations on blockchains. We expect more AI agents to use crypto to pay for goods and services or market their own assets for financial gain like in this case.
